On Thursday, CNN aired a documentary about how to protect your kids during an assault.
“The attack that we’re seeing now is more like a pandemic than a natural disaster,” said CNN Senior Legal Analyst Amy B Wang.
“It has the potential to be devastating.”
The documentary, which was produced by the Center for Public Integrity, features interviews with a number of police officers and other professionals, including a former New York City Police Department officer who worked in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, attacks.
The officer tells the filmmakers that the threat posed by terrorism is real and that the government needs to be on top of the threat.
“They have no idea what we’re doing to protect our kids, and the fact that we have a pandemics response that’s so far out of date is indicative of a lack of leadership,” the former officer said.
The FBI says it is currently investigating three suspected attacks, all of which occurred between October and December.
The attack on the American Airlines plane, which crashed in Dallas on Christmas Eve, killed at least 259 people and injured more than 5,000 others.
The Boston Marathon bombing in April left four people dead and wounded more than 260 others.
And in December, a gunman opened fire in a crowded theater in Colorado Springs, killing 12 people and injuring more than 50.
