A South Korean court on Friday sentenced a man to 10 years in prison for sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl, accusing him of using the girl as a “puppy” in a “careful and orchestrated” attempt to get her into the entertainment industry.
The man, who has yet to be identified, is accused of having sex with the girl after she told him she was 13.
He was sentenced by a court in the southwestern city of Busan, according to South Korean media.
The girl, who cannot be named due to the case, told prosecutors that she was abused by the man after he showed up at her home on Sept. 12, 2016, and forced her to perform oral sex on him.
The court found the man guilty on Thursday.
The court’s sentencing followed a trial in the case that lasted nearly three years, and included a plea deal that included no prison time.
The man agreed to have no contact with the victim, who was 16 when the incident occurred.
The boy’s mother, who also did not want to be named, told reporters in Seoul, South Korea, that the man was remorseful for what he had done and apologized.
“I want to say that this is a tragedy for my daughter,” she said.
“He was in a good place.”
The court also sentenced the man to 3.5 years in jail for molesting a 15-year, white-haired girl in October 2016, according the Yonhap news agency.
In the early 2000s, a 14-year old girl, then called Seol-su, was raped by a 25-year male actor and had to undergo an operation to remove a cyst in her vagina.
She said she felt so ashamed that she started drinking to numb the pain and didn’t tell anyone for three years.
